Whatcom County is located in the Northwest corner of Washington State. Its name ultimately derives from a Nooksack word meaning "noisy water. As of 2006, the Whatcom County's population was at 186,225. The county seat is in Bellingham, which is also the county's largest city. Whatcom County's northern border is the international boundary with the Canadian province of British Columbia; adjoining the county on the north are four of metropolitan Vancouver's suburbs, Surrey, White Rock, Langley and Abbotsford, BC, with several shopping malls and other services in Bellingham and elsewhere in the county geared to cross-border shopping and recreation.
The major towns, cities, and areas that make up Whatcom County are Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Birch Bay, Semiahmoo, Everson, Nooksack, Sumas, Deming, Acme, Kendall, Glacier, Sudden Valley, Glenhaven, and Fairhaven.
Whatcom County Real Estate prices have finally leveled off after double digit prices increases from 2002 to 2005. Homes for sale in Whatcom County have realized anywhere from small gains to flat to even decreases since Sept 2005. Looking at the most recent sales numbers from October 2007 shows that the bellingham homes market has finally leveld out. Bellingham home sales has seen a small gains in the number of homes sold in the first ten m0nths of 2007 versus the same time period in 2006. The Lynden, Ferndale, and Blaine markets experienced less sales over the same time frame. The North County should finally see the bottom early in 2008 and I believe we should be getting back to normal sometime in 2008.
